Hello, we are Rachel & Brett Roslow, the founders of Sensory Beans, a parent facilitated indoor sensory gym for children of all ages and abilities. We are a not-for-profit organization, ran by the help of our caring staff, volunteers, and donations, located in Wantagh. We have found that there is a high demand for recreational activities that supports the needs of all children regardless of ability.
In 2012, our 19 month old Ethan was diagnosed with Autism. The diagnosis came with a feeling of fear, isolation and confusion. We did not know anyone who had been on this journey, and did not know what his future would bring. We did know that we wanted him to have a place to go where he was accepted for his abilities and not judged or excluded because of his inabilities. As parents, we needed a place where we could watch our child play while we connected with other families experiencing the same special needs journey. Since the addition of his brother James, it’s been an even bigger challenge finding an inclusive environment where they both can play together.
Children and their families strengthen their relationships with one another, as well as within their community. Children gain confidence and develop skills to become part of a group while jumping, sliding and swinging in a fun environment. Children learn vital skills and develop strong bonds with family and peers through functional and safe play. Every child is free to be themselves without feeling judged or excluded. Parents can interact with their child and not be fearful of being criticized. Every child is unique, but all children need to have fun!!!
